About the Temple of Night

Temple of Night is a gathering place for practitioners and spiritualists from all walks of life who want a stable place to meet, practice, and think, the way churches and lodges have always offered.

The Night

We believe human beings live conceptual lives. The meanings, stories, and symbols we all live inside shape the world we perceive and participate in. From that, our central belief is — the world is best understood as a magickal system. 

The truth is, Night represents the most hallowed of places: our minds. It is here that the hidden light exists. We call it the realm of magick, and we think it is the oldest workshop there is. 

The Night is the fertile, boundless place of the imagination, dreams, and meditation. It is the abyss that opens when you look inward and find eternity. 

A Different Kind of Light

Many orders point to a fixed point, a singular external light and demand obedience. We point to a dynamic, hidden one and ask for discussion. Our motto is:

In Tenebris, Lux — In Darkness, Light

Who We Are

We are skeptical by nature. We do not ask you to believe in anything that cannot deliver repeatable results. Tarot is a psychological tool for us. It is a mirror for the subconscious. We do not consult the Arcana for divination purposes, for instance. We also think the habit of explaining away every strange human experience costs us all something — something that has been lost to disenchantment. Placebo is a good example of what we mean. It is a real effect that works through meaning, and meaning is our subject.

Magick, for us, is the deliberate shaping of reality in accordance with our Will, starting with our own and extending outward to the shared reality we all inhabit.

How We're Organized

The Temple of Night is a 501 (c)(3) church, open to all genders and all paths, with a public side for anyone curious. Inside of it, there is an optional fraternal order — Order of Nocturnai. For the devoted, The Order provides structure, hierarchy, and nine degrees that unveil the mysteries of The Night. 

On Hierarchy...Some may raise their eyebrows at this, but here's why we are structured this way:

We'd rather keep things loose, but trust matters, and we cannot let just anyone speak for us and potentially harm the community. It is about safety, confidentiality, and responsibility to ourselves and to all of our diverse members from all walks of life who deserve privacy and protection.
