Temple of Night
About the Temple
What is the Temple of Night?
The Temple of Night is a religious and educational community built around the practice of Magick as deliberate transformation of behavior, perception, and emotion. We honor Nyx, the Night, as our single deity. Our motto is In Tenebris, Lux — In Darkness, Light.
Who is Nyx?
Nyx is the Night, mother of the Day, and the Temple's one representative deity. She is the abyss in which all things become possible. Other gods and names are understood to rest within her, as all things rest within the Night.
Is this a religion, a philosophy, or a psychological practice?
All three. The Temple is a religion with sacred texts, rites, and a revered deity. It also treats Magick as psychotechnology, and it invites you to test what you practice rather than take it on faith.
Do I have to believe in magic or the supernatural?
No. The Temple measures a teaching by what it changes in a life. A tarot spread can be a psychological mirror and need not be divination. Skeptics are welcome here, and so are mystics.
Do I have to leave my current religion or path?
No. The Temple is open to all genders and paths. Many people practice with us alongside other traditions. We ask only that you respect the Six Tenets and the people around you.

Beliefs and Practice
What is Magick, as the Temple uses the word?
Magick is the deliberate change of the human condition through imagination, ritual, symbol, and narrative. The spelling follows Crowley's tradition, but the Temple places the work within the psyche.
What does the Temple teach?
Our teachings rest on three principles:
- Reality, as a person lives it, is changed by changes in behavior, perception, and emotion.
- Imagination is efficacious.
- Agency is sacred, so no rite, symbol, or story is ethical unless willfully chosen.
These are expressed through the Six Tenets, and the Liber Noctis sets out the canon.
Is Magick dangerous? Do you hex people or work against others?
The Temple's ethical axis is Agency. We teach that self-made magick strengthens the self and imposed magick takes it. Members commit to awareness of influence, to autonomy, and to consent as a boundary.
Do you practice ritual sacrifice?
Not in the obscene way most think about the concept. We honor and perform ritual sacrifice that is ethical, always. Thysia is a good example of this.
What is Book of the Rite?
It's a beginner's template for practice. It walks through the five steps of Intention, Symbolization, Ritualization, Integration, and Reflection, with an invocation of Nyx. You are encouraged to adapt it if you are just beginning your own practice.
What are the Nocturnes?
They are the Temple's recurring, shared, writings on theory and daily life.
